Chief Medical and Genomic Officer

Prof. Peter Bauer, M.D., serves as CENTOGENE’s Chief Medical and Genomic Officer, where he combines clinical and medical understanding in genetic testing with an excellent knowledge of the latest scientific development, based on his extraordinary experience, especially in high-throughput genetic testing using next-generation sequencing. He received his board certification in Human Genetics in 2006 and headed the molecular diagnostic laboratory at the Institute of Medical Genetics and Applied Genomics at the University Hospital Tübingen. Additionally, he is Vice President of the German Society of Neurogenetics (DGNG). Peter has authored more than 250 publications in neurogenetics, oncogenetics, cardiogenetics, and sequencing technology.

Chief Commercial Officer

Víctor Llinares serves as Chief Commercial Officer at CENTOGENE, where he leads the company’s global sales strategy across all business areas, including clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical partnerships, and reproductive health. With over a decade of experience heading international business development teams in the genetics space—and more than 20 years in senior executive roles overseeing operations, sales, and affiliate management—Víctor brings deep industry expertise and a strategic mindset. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering, along with postgraduate qualifications in Business Administration from IESE and Marketing from IE.

Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Krishna Kumar Kandaswamy is Chief Technology Officer at CENTOGENE, where he leads technology strategy and innovation across bioinformatics, AI, software engineering, and clinical diagnostics. With more than 19 years of experience in computational biology and precision medicine, he has built and led international teams and has played a key role in advancing multiomics, rare disease diagnostics, and reproductive genetics solutions. Before becoming CTO, he held several senior leadership roles at CENTOGENE, including Vice President of R&D Bioinformatics, and earlier conducted research at the Max Planck Institute in Germany. He holds a Ph.D. in Computational Biology from the University of Lübeck, Germany and has authored more than 50 scientific publications spanning genomics, Bioinformatics, AI, biomarker discovery, and rare diseases

Vice President Medical Genetics

Jorge serves as CENTOGENE’s Vice President Medical Genetics. Bringing in over 15 years of leadership experience, he is responsible for overseeing policies, management, and regulations to drive clinical and operational value. Before joining CENTOGENE, Jorge served as the Director of the Molecular Diagnostics and Genomics Labs at CGC Genetics. He holds a medical degree from the University of Porto and is specialized in Rare Disease Genetics, Neurogenetics, Dysmorphology, and Molecular Genetics.

Director of Medical Genetics & Genomic Research

Aida graduated from the Institute of Medical Sciences, Santiago de Cuba. In 2004, she obtained her Ph.D. in Human Genetics at the Department of Clinical Genetics, Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. She received several grants and was a recipient of the prestigious Erasmus Fellowship in 2009. Major research accomplishments include the discovery of mutations in several genes causing congenital cardiovascular diseases, which led to new diagnostic tests, improved patient care guidelines, and major scientific publications. After 18 years of experience in academia, she joined CENTOGENE, where she now serves as Head of Research Data Analysis.

University College London, UK

Bill Mackenna is a British cardiologist and Emeritus Professor at University College London, widely recognized for his pioneering work on inherited heart diseases. He also serves as a Scientific Advisory Member at CENTOGENE. He has played a central role in integrating genetics into cardiology, helping to identify gene mutations responsible for cardiomyopathies and translating these discoveries into clinical practice.

His research has significantly advanced diagnosis, risk stratification, and family screening in cardiovascular medicine, and has contributed to shaping international clinical guidelines.

University Hospital Lübeck

Dr. Christine Klein is a Professor of Neurology and Neurogenetics. Christine’s pursuit of knowledge has taken her all over the world, including Germany, the U.K., Sweden, France, Belarus, the U.S., Canada, and Australia. She completed her neurology training at Lubeck University in 2004 and was appointed Lichtenberg Professor at the Department of Neurology there in 2005. In 2009, she was appointed as the university’s Schilling Professor of Clinical and Molecular Neurogenetics and later the Director of its Institute of Neurogenetics in 2013. Christine has authored over 500 scientific papers, with more than 45,000 citations – as well as serving as Deputy Editor of Movement Disorders and Science Advances and previously as Associate Editor of Annals of Neurology.

She was Chair of the Congress Scientific Program Committee of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society and President of the German Neurological Society and currently acts as Chair-Elect of the European Section of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society, Lead of the Monogenic Network of the Global Parkinson’s Genetics Program, and an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Dr. Klein has also advised CENTOGENE from time to time as an expert consultant for our work with rare and neurodegenerative diseases.

Human Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Greece

Florentia Fostira is a Senior Faculty member at the Human Molecular Genetics Laboratory in Athens, Greece. She specializes in cancer genetics, with a focus on hereditary cancer predisposition, molecular diagnostics, and the interpretation of rare genetic variants. She holds a BSc in Molecular Biology from King’s College London, an MSc in Molecular Medicine from Imperial College London, and a PhD in Cancer Genetics from Democritus University of Thrace.

Dr. Fostira has extensive research experience spanning roles from research assistant to postdoctoral fellow and adjunct researcher at Human Molecular Genetics Laboratory. Her work contributes to advancing genetic testing and targeted approaches in cancer diagnosis and management. She is an active member of several major international research consortia, including CIMBA, ENIGMA, and the Breast and Ovarian Cancer Association Consortia.
