Rare Disease Day 2021
Rare Disease Day (RDD) has been held annually on the last day of February since 2008 and has grown into a truly global event with hundreds of organizations participating. Bringing together physicians, patients and patient organizations, researchers, and the general public, CENTOGENE is proud to support this dedicated day to raise awareness bring support to the community.
As part of our initiative to shine a spotlight on rare diseases in the lead up to RDD, we had changed our colors from CENTOGENE red to the official RDD colors.
In 2021 CENTOGENE hosted a two-part virtual event, with a scientific conference program followed by our first international film festival on rare diseases. The events were available on-demand via a virtual platform in English, with German and Spanish simultaneous translation until March 31, 2021.
Bringing together patients, medical experts, and advocates from around the world, our Rare Disease Day 2021 Virtual Conference highlighted the novel problems caused by the current pandemic and the benefits of international diagnostic and research cooperation for rare disease patients.
Rare Disease Filmfestival
Showcasing work from filmmakers around the world, the Rare Disease Filmfestival aims to raise awareness of the lives and challenges of rare disease patients. Shown through the lens of filmmakers around the world, the chosen films - selected from almost 3,000 entries and 120 countries by renowned film critics and producers - give us a glimpse into the inspiring lives of the rare disease community.
The Filmfestival screened the prize-winning short films on February 28th and the top 52 films as well as the film festival recording were available on-demand until the end of March 2021.
