Rare Disease Day - Mexico City
Patient Organizations – Driving Solutions for Rare Disease Patients in Latin America
CENTOGENE, the Ibero-American Alliance for Rare, Orphan and Low Frequent Diseases (ALIBER), and the Mexican Organization for Rare Diseases (OMER) are jointly organizing a special Rare Disease Day event in Mexico City. With more than 21 million people, Mexico City is the most populated city in Latin America, a continent that has seen the development of many strong and active patient organizations over the last years. Prof. Atul Mehta from the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust will be delivering a keynote speech highlighting the importance of early diagnosis. Representatives of patient advocacy groups from many Latin American countries will be present to discuss how patient organizations can contribute to the development of therapies, the importance of newborn screenings and diagnostic testing, and the potentials of modern technologies in organizing patients. Everyone interested in raising awareness and increasing knowledge of rare diseases is welcome to attend. Childcare will be provided.
